Set the Stage for Bathroom Style with Functional, Affordable Curtains
The bathroom might serve a very utilitarian purpose, but that doesn’t mean the room should get the short end of the decorating stick. When it comes to ideal locations for relaxation, the bathroom is a No. 1 spot in many homes. With the right accessories and decorating touches even the most seemingly small bathroom can become a place of quiet refuge.
The bathroom itself is considered a favorite in-home getaway by many, but perhaps more so by mothers. Offering one of the only spots in a home a mom can escape and get a few minutes of peace, the bathroom quickly becomes the room of solitude. There’s nothing like taking a few minutes for one self and soaking in a luxurious bubble bath.
Making a plain bathroom a true escape can start with a number of features, but one of the most important is the shower curtain. The curtain, even beyond the tile, cabinets and the countertops, is a fairly inexpensive purchase that can set the stage for the entire room. Pick a decorating style and there’s a bathroom shower curtain to match it.
Downplaying the importance of a shower curtain when it comes to decorating a bathroom just won’t do. The single addition of a new curtain can completely transform a room in one purchase. The basic styles of curtains available to make a bathroom stand out include:
* Basic. Spartan in appearance, these shower curtains generally are nothing more than plastic sheeting in solid colors. They might not be much to look at, but they do serve their purpose. And if budget is key, they’re not a bad way to go. Offering a rainbow of colors, they can blend in and work with a variety of different decorating styles.
* Designed. A step up from the basic, these curtains offer some sort of pattern to help break up the monotony of a solid curtain. Whether the choice is romantic and flowery or whimsical and wacky in color, this type of curtain is capable of setting a decorating stage.
* Cloth. These curtains are generally more expensive
than the basic solid color backing. They, however, lend an air of class to the room and tend to mock real window curtains in their styles. They can be pretty basic or even offer elaborate designs complete with their own valance system. When going with this style, remember it’s important to also get a vinyl backing curtain to trap in water. When used in conjunction with a back curtain and tie backs, cloth curtains can give a room a regal appeal.
They might be an afterthought for many a bathroom decorator, but they shouldn’t be. Bathroom curtains, in fact, can really help bring the room together, or they can set the stage for all other decorator implements.
Decorating a bathroom should be an undertaking that’s approached with the same seriousness as decking out the kitchen or living areas. This room provides the solitude of a quiet, relaxing bath, a respite from a hard day’s labor. Making sure it’s decorated well can start or end with the shower curtain, but just don’t overlook the importance of this detail.
