Life Of A Con Artist – Fool Me Once, Shame On You, Fool Me Twice, Shame On Me by Ed Bagley
These “snapshots” cover the second 3 episodes during season two of the popular television series “Castle”.
Fool Me Once . . . – 4 Stars (Excellent)
They say a tiger can never change his stripes, and a con man can never give up his game. A prime example is a con man that gets murdered while performing an arctic exploration trip that occurs in his uptown apartment in the Big Apple.
The victim is shot point blank in the face, destroying his identity as Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) and mystery novelist Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) discover a stash of passports hidden at the murder scene. The con is 1 of at least 7 different men. Castle suggests that his current identity is probably not among the passports, and that they may never know his true identity since there is no known record of fingerprints to compare.
The con man was concurrently working another fraud by soon marrying a woman worth $100 million. His wife to be believes that he is a CIA agent on a secret mission. Beckett knows better, and it is Beckett who figures out this mystery and his killer. Watch for the story line that love may be able to conquer all things if murder doesn’t get in the way in this Episode 4 of Season 2.
Bonus: Beckett learns that Castle’s character, Nikki Heat, has a racy sex scene in his first novel, and she tries to downplay her interest in the story, but gets caught in a compromising position.
When the Bough Breaks – 4 Stars (Excellent)
There is perhaps nothing sadder for a mother than to have her child precede her in death, especially if the child is born with an incurable disease and a projected life span of 3 years. Add to that the fact that the mother was in illegal immigrant who left her husband when their son died. After two years she is fired from her job as a maid at an upscale apartment building, and then is brutally murdered and dumped into a sewer to be found by public service workers.
From this distressing start, Detective Kate Beckett and mystery novelist Rick Castle follow a trail to the victim’s husband, to a physician, to a hospital, to an affair, to a DNA test, and finally to the killer. Amazingly, this story has an ending that will touch your heart in this Episode 5 of Season 2.
Bonus: Castle’s first novel based on Kate Beckett as Detective Nikki Heat in “Heat Wave” becomes a smashing success with rave reviews. Castle gets an offer for a 3-book deal to write about his action hero and inspiration – super agent James Bond – and must decide to accept the offer and drop a sequel effort in the Nikki Heat series. You will not believe Beckett’s reaction and what happens next. This episode is one of the very best ever.
Vampire Weekend – 3 Stars (Good)
Sometimes young adults carry their fantasies to the extreme, even living as a vampire while switching in and out of reality. It is said that oftentimes these wannabe vampires have encountered some trauma in their early childhood. Such is the case when Detective Kate Beckett and mystery novelist Rick Castle investigate the murder of a young man with a stake driven through his heart.
The victim was creating a graphic novel with a twist – it contained designs of a murder that had occurred 18 years ago when he was 2. What was the connection that explained not just his murder, but two other murders as well? After eliminating four suspects, Castle finally puts it together in this Episode 6 of Season 2. The killer will surprise you. If you correctly figure out the killer in this episode ahead of Castle, you qualify for the NYPD Detective Unit.
Bonus: See how Beckett gets Castle to reveal a dramatic experience in his childhood that caused him to become a murder mystery novelist. Find out what Beckett realizes, and watch how Beckett extracts her revenge at Castle’s annual Halloween party.
These second three episodes of season two find the unspoken attraction continuing to build and develop between Castle and Beckett but neither will openly admit their attraction for the other.
